In Bhupen Hazarika’s rendition, Dimple Kapadia is shown silently taking off her bracelets following the passing of her spouse. Bhikni, who is eventually revealed to be her mother, instructs her to try crying by putting tears in her eyes and applying eyeliner in an almost gouging motion. The song then follows Shanichari’s path to her eventual expression of love for her mother as a Dalit woman, a physical suffering shared through her line of work. Kalpana calls it one of the best parts in the movie and claims that Dimple requested once again that Bhupendra’s song be played in the background while she acted out the action.
